Mental Health Courses
Here you will find a brief introduction to our Mental Health Community Based Program courses. All of these programs are FREE. The Mental Health Community Based Program is funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).

Smiles
The Smiles program is for children aged between 8 and 11 years. It is designed to address the needs of children who are supporting family members with a mental illness. The Smiles program provides age appropriate information on depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. It aims to improve coping skills and resilience. This is a 3 day program which runs during the school holidays. All resources and food are provided.
A.C.E (Adolescents Coping with Emotions)
A.C.E is an early intervention program for adolescents 14 to 16 years of age who may be experiencing depressive symptoms or at risk of developing depressive symptoms. This is an 8 week Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) based program which includes the topics of dealing with conflict, problem solving, negotiation skills and self-esteem boosters.
P.U.L.S.E (Pumping Up Low Self Esteem)
P.U.L.S.E is a 3 week program aimed at exploring a teenager’s self-worth and personal strengths while developing self-esteem and stress management strategies. It is an opportunity for teenagers 12 to 15 years of age to gain an understanding of self-esteem and the role it can play in a person’s life.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a treatment approach that is based on the concept that the way we think effects how we respond to situations. This class is for people with mild to moderate depression and provides strategies to assist in alleviating depression and anxiety. Conducted in partnership with Hunter New England Health this 6 week program teaches coping strategies for dealing with everyday stressors.
To participate in this program you need a referral from your G.P, mental health case worker or psychologist.
Achieving Wellbeing and Happiness
This is a CBT based program which gives participants an understanding of CBT, stress, resilience, self-help strategies, self-esteem and coping skills. This is a 4 week program for people who have depression and/or anxiety.
No referral is required for this program.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
If you are a parent of a teenager or work with young people this course is highly recommended. Conducted over 2 full days this course aims to increase knowledge and understanding of youth mental health problems. It educates in recognising causes of mental health episodes, signs and symptoms of mental health illness and the first aid practices used to assist in a mental health crisis until professional help arrives. Topics discussed include depression, anxiety, substance misuse, psychosis, eating disorders and non-suicidal self-injury.
Participants must be over 18 years of age. Certificates are issued to the people who complete the entire 14 hour program.
S.O.S (Sense of Self)
S.O.S is a 6 week course conducted in 2 x 3 week segments. It is for people who live with a mental health disorder and teaches self-awareness and self-acceptance.
